- Vueling has completed its fleet with the addition of the ninth Airbus A320 equipped with the new advanced wingtips Airbus has named Sharklets.-
With this arrival, Vueling consolidates its growth bringing the fleet to a total of 70 aircraft. With this fleet in place Vueling plans to operate a record number of 502 takeoffs and landings a day this summer season across a total of 208 routes to 105 cities in Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Sharklets are the new Airbus technology that, thanks to the extension and aerodynamic improvement of the wingtips, guarantees a decrease of up to 4% in fuel consumption and a significant reduction in CO2 emissions.
Vueling became, last March, the first airline in southern Europe to incorporate this technology, which substantially improves its already safe and efficient operations, into its fleet. The incorporation of these aircraft responds to the challenge the company faces with the higher standards of quality required to follow the safety audit criteria, IOSA, as developed by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
About Vueling:
Vueling was created in July 2004 with an initial fleet of two Airbus A320s, four routes and the objective of providing excellent customer service at a competitive price. Nine years later, Vueling is operating 208 routes in over 105 cities all over Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Vueling has 16 operational bases and has transported over 55 million passengers.
Safety and punctuality, our number one priorities:
Vueling is the leading company at Barcelona-El Prat Airport, where it is currently operating to over 100 direct destinations this summer, transporting more than 16 million passengers each year and where the airline is the leader with a 35% market share. In order to manage such a volume of activity, the airline relies on a fleet of 70 Airbus aircraft. 66 A-320s with capacity for 180 passengers - nine of them are new models with the latest technology in advanced wingtips, named sharklets by the manufacturer - and four A-319s with capacity for 144 passengers. Vueling values the systematic incorporation of all developments that may bring security and efficiency to the flying process. The new Airbus sharklets will help the company to lower CO2 levels as well as to lower fuel consumption.
In addition, the company has recently been awarded the Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) certification by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) which endorses the airline as having the very highest standards in both quality and safety.
Different needs, different solutions:
Vueling, which has recorded profits in each of the last four years and is the only profitable airline in the south of Europe, presented a renewed communications philosophy in 2012 which aims to project maturity and the company´s current dimension without sacrificing the innovative spirit that has always characterized the brand. People are very much the focal point of all the company's endeavors. And this is all encompassed by a new brand concept: LOVE THE WAY YOU FLY.
