Lagos-based aviation business EAN has appointed Joe McDermott to the newly created role of Head of FBO Operations. Joe will be based at the Lagos headquarters and be responsible for managing all operations at its fully integrated FBO facility based at Murtala Mohammed Airport, Lagos, along with developing existing offices in Port Harcourt and Abuja that currently manage EAN passenger requests in each location. Joe joins the company from Emerald Flight Support in Dublin, Ireland, where he was Ground Operations and Business Development Consultant responsible for FBO viability, business development and procurement planning for the VIP Terminal facility at Casement Military Aerodrome, Ireland.
Joe brings over 15 years of highly relevant professional aviation experience and industry knowledge to the role having worked previously for international companies Landmark Aviation and Universal Weather and Aviation in the area of Business Development. He is also a keen aviation photographer and regular contributor to a number of mainstream business aviation titles.
Joe joins EAN at a time when the Nigerian business aviation market is rapidly expanding. The company is developing its portfolio of services and its customer base, as highlighted by the opening of the first fully integrated FBO, maintenance and hangar facility for corporate & private aircraft in Nigeria in 2011. Joe reports to EAN CEO/MD Segun Demuren and is responsible for managing a team of 17 staff across its Nigerian network.
Commenting on the new appointment, Segun Demuren said: "Joe's industry knowledge and experience made him an obvious choice to run the operations side of the business. Equally, his long-standing relationships across the industry coupled with his extensive knowledge will help to expand and develop our business offering to business jet owners and operators."
Joe McDermott adds: "EAN has consistently been at the forefront of business aviation in Nigeria. Owners and operators want to know that they can rely on an FBO for quality, service, reliability and integrity and I look forward to being part of the company's ongoing growth and success."
Joe's appointment follows hard on the heels of news that EAN has signed a representation agreement with Gulfstream Aerospace (a General Dynamics Company) to promote the sale of new and used Gulfstream aircraft within Nigeria. This announcement further strengthens the company's commitment to expanding its presence in the rapidly growing Nigerian business aviation market.
