Ethiopian Airlines, the largest and most profitable airline in Africa has been ranked the 6th most dependable airline in the world according to US travel site WanderBat. The travel site researched carriers across the globe and ranked each one based on three key factors including on-time performance, average fleet age and checked baggage allowance and fees.
Ethiopian scored highly in all areas with an average on-time performance of 71%, a generous baggage allowance (which includes three pieces of checked luggage weighing a total of 69 kg for business class and two pieces of checked luggage weighing a total of 46 kg for economy class) and an average fleet age of just seven years young.
With its current fleet of 78 aircraft including 11 state-of-the-art Boeing 787 Dreamliners, a further two due to arrive this year and a total of 41 other aircraft to be added over the next five years, Ethiopian aims to continue to operate one of the world's most modern fleet of aircraft.
The airline is equally renowned for its highly competitive prices, quick connections and excellent customer service. In fact, Ethiopian has recently strengthened its UK service offering with passengers departing in style from the brand new Queens Terminal 2 at London Heathrow aboard its daily Boeing 787 Dreamliner service direct to Addis Ababa.
Ethiopian has also enhanced its offering to the UK business travel market with the introduction of 24 lie-flat seats in business class on all its B787 Dreamliners, each equipped with personal 15.4 inch IFE screen with 85 viewing channels. Additionally, just last month the airline introduced a new "Corporate Incentive Programme'' designed to win loyalty among corporates choosing to fly with Ethiopian Airlines.
Commenting on the ranking, Tewolde Gebremariam, CEO, Ethiopian Airlines said: "We are naturally delighted to be recognised as one of the world's most dependable airlines particularly given the tough competition. Ethiopian strives to be the most dependable airline and we are constantly improving our service offering for the benefit of our customers. In applauding this result, we must not forget our dedicated team of employees who consistently deliver outstanding customer service to all our passengers across the world."
