London's Gatwick Airport to Athens added on March 31st
Larnaca, Cyprus, April 2018 - Cobalt Air, Cyprus's largest airline, rounded off a busy summer route launch week with the start of twice-weekly Gatwick to Athens scheduled flights on Saturday evening, 31st March.
The carrier, which also commenced London Heathrow to Larnaca daily on March 27th, saw a strong start to the Easter holiday period with its bolstered UK network, carrying over 1300 passengers between Easter Friday-Monday from Gatwick, Heathrow, Stansted and Manchester to Larnaca.
Cobalt's new Athens service is its third route from the Greek capital (alongside Larnaca and Paphos) and its second Gatwick route, operated by Airbus A320 aircraft.
Welcoming the new service, Simon Edwards, Airline Business Development Manager, Gatwick Airport commented:
"It's great to see Cobalt Air expanding its route network from Gatwick with this fantastic new service to Athens. The Greek capital is an enchanting ancient city with an enduring popularity among British holidaymakers, and we're very excited that passengers will now have even more opportunities to travel there from Gatwick in the future."
Andrew Madar, CEO, Cobalt Air commented:
"We are delighted to be adding Athens, alongside Larnaca, to our important UK route map from Gatwick Airport, bringing both an economy and business class offering, plus attractive fares. This Easter weekend was exceptionally busy for us and our UK routes performed very well with high load factors. As a young airline, we are beginning to build some loyalty, and this is very pleasing to see."
The Gatwick to Athens route features Cobalt's newly developed business class product, with large bespoke business seats in a two-by-two configuration with a 40" pitch, bringing a high level of comfort on the four-hour journey. Cobalt is the only airline to offer a business class product to Athens from Gatwick Airport.
