Annapolis, Maryland, USA, June 7, 2011--ARINC Incorporated today said its long-time customer Virgin Atlantic Airways has renewed multiple contracts for a range of ARINC GLOBALinkSM aviation communications services.
ARINC and Virgin Atlantic's working relationship began in 1993. ARINC has been the primary provider of air to ground communications for Virgin Atlantic since 2002, and currently provides all Data Link and Voice Communications for the cockpit and cabin to the Virgin Atlantic fleet worldwide.
The contracts just renewed include comprehensive data link, voice, and satellite services. Virgin Atlantic also renewed its contract for ARINC OpCenterTM message management, a hosted service which offers carriers global delivery and access to Data Link messages.
"We are extremely pleased to receive this comprehensive new agreement from a great customer and one of the world's most innovative airlines," stated ARINC EMEA Senior Program Director Michael DiGeorge. "Our long association with Virgin Atlantic is a major factor in ARINC's industry leadership today, and we trust the partnership has been mutually beneficial for our Customer."
"Virgin Atlantic recognizes ARINC as a superior supplier with deep technical expertise--a true Global Communications partner that can provide services across all media including VHF, HF, SATCOM and SBB," said Scott Clark, Principal Design & Development Engineer at Virgin Atlantic. "Their ability to deliver flexible, highly reliable, cost-effective solutions, and to evolve and adapt technology to expand customer capabilities is unmatched.
"Virgin Atlantic uses ARINC's GlobaLink VHF ACARSĀ® Data Link service, Air/Ground Domestic and Air/Ground International voice services, as well as GLOBALink/Satellite and GLOBALink HFDL High Frequency Data Link services for global communications with its fleet.
Virgin Atlantic also uses the ARINC OpCenter remote host processing solution, which enables the airline to view and send Data Link messages globally using either Type B or Internet access. This service is wholly managed by ARINC and benefits the carrier by reducing overhead costs with a unique Web-based host processing solution--a service currently provided only by ARINC. There are no associated needs for in-house skillsets or IT resources, as is required by competing types of solutions.
Virgin Atlantic flies to 32 destinations worldwide including New York, Boston, Washington DC, Miami, San Francisco & Los Angeles, Delhi, Shanghai, Tokyo, Dubai, Lagos and Nairobi as well as many Caribbean destinations.
ARINC Incorporated, a portfolio company of The Carlyle Group, provides communications, engineering and integration solutions for commercial, defense and government customers worldwide.
