Expanding Swiss regional airline, SkyWork Airlines continues its upward trend reporting today that in the first nine months of 2012 alone, it carried 158,000 passengers network-wide from its home base, the Swiss capital of Bern.
SkyWork Airlines has succeeded in almost doubling the number of passengers it carried compared with the same period last year. By the end of this year, the airline expects to carry in the region of 230,000 passengers.
Bern to London City Airport has consistently been one of SkyWork's most popular routes. The airline is preparing to increase its frequency on the route to three times daily (Monday to Friday) on October 29th at the start of its winter schedule with a new departure at 12:40 from Bern and 13:55 from London, complementing its morning and evening flights and its weekend services on the route.
SkyWork's winter flight schedule offers 13 destinations from Bern, including London City Airport with the addition of Zagreb as a new destination and Thessaloniki as a new all-year destination. In summer 2013, SkyWork Airlines plans a further expansion to the route network to include 34 destinations.
In related news, SkyWork Airlines has opened SkyWork Travel Center located close to Bern-Belp Airport offering the full range of travel agency services under one umbrella to best serve its growing customer base from Bern. In addition, SkyWork has entered into an exclusive agreement with tour operator Railtour Suisse to gain access to the Railtour sales network and its retailers and partners from the start of the 2013 summer flight schedule.
SkyWork was founded in 1983 and is one of the oldest airlines in Switzerland. Initially specialising in ad-hoc, business and charter flights, SkyWork's summer schedule embraces a total of 25 scheduled routes from Bern, including the UK's London City Airport. The fleet, which began with a single Cessna 340, has expanded to four Dornier 328 and three 72-seat Dash 8 Q400s. SkyWork currently has a workforce of 180 employees.
SkyWork Airlines became the first regional airline to offer its passengers Apple iPad entertainment since 2011. The tablet devices come preloaded with a selection of travel guides, video podcasts, music, video clips, flight schedules, games and magazines so passengers can enjoy a range of entertainment to suit all ages and tastes. In February this year SkyWork received the top award for its Apple iPad in the Best In-flight Amenity (short-haul category) at the 2012 TravelPlus Awards.
Your Personal Way to Fly is SkyWork Airlines' claim - a philosophy it implements in every aspect of its operations - on the ground and in the air.
